When ridding out try to hold your place on the road, you are a legitimate road user, and you are entitled to use the road, and you are actually safer if don't ride in the gutter. Electric bikes can easily keep up with traffic in town so be bold but not foolhardy, Remember the gutter is where the stuff of punctures is lurking. So keep near to the kerb, but not actually in the gutter. Give very clear hand signals and if you find this hard its only because you are not used to doing it. So practice giving hand signals, ride with one hand and then with the other after a while it will become easy and a natural thing to do. You should be able ro ride your electric bike with one hand in a safe and competent way. When you come to stop at junctions or traffic lights, don't pull up on the nearside of a lorry The driver will not be able to see you in his mirror and when big lorries turn left or right they need a large turning area if you are in the way you may get hit by the body of the lorry. This is quite a common happening. So never stop alongside a large vehicle, hold back and let the lorry go first. Althought our electric bikes are fast and you may be able to get away in front of a lorry please dont try it, let teh heavy goods vehicle go first and keep away from going along side them Also be aware of any vehicle turning left. Just because you know they are there, they might not have seen you or be aware of you. Some motorists believe that because you are on a bike, even an electric bike and they are in a car that they can go first and not be considerate to you, this is not right, but don't stand on your rights, let them go if they must, as it is more likely that you will get hurt. Drivers who are also cyclists are more considerate but most are not. Always be aware of other road users, think ahead and you will be alright. |
