We want you to enjoy your Electric Bike and to be safe.

Please take a moment to read through these safety tips

Equipment:

Keep your bike maintained and adjusted correctly, with particular emphasis on brakes and tyres      (click here to find out how)

Have good lights and reflectors

Wear Bright clothing, or a Hi Visibility Jacket or both.

Wear a helmet

Fit a rear view mirror.

Fit Indicators and signal clearly.

Bicycling Techniques:

Obey the rules of the road the same as driving a car. Always stop at the stop signs and of course obey the traffic lights, be sure to signal clearly before turning or changing to a different lane.

Make sure other road users know what your intentions are.

Be very careful when travelling passing across junctions. Be aware of traffic around you, and be ready to brake and stop if necessary.

Don't ride along the side of other vehicles when crossing intersections, in case they don't see you and turn in front of you without any warning.

When cycling passed parked cars, be careful as they may not see you when they open their door or when they are pulling out of a parking space.

Bikes are quite small, and do not stand out on the road, so they are not readily seen on a crowded street and won't attract attention on their own. So it's up to you to make sure that you become obvious to other road users all times, by having good lights, wearing bright clothes and signalling clearly.

It's your safety so it's up to you to make sure you do everything you can to stay safe. Do these simple things and soon it will become second nature.

Electric bikes

Always buy the best bike you can afford - cheap electric bikes may need more frequent checks, they may be harder to ride, and go wrong more often. They will be made from cheaper parts that's why they are cheaper. Expensive repairs to them will cost you more in the end, in both money and frustration. Usually if you buy cheap you buy twice

Make regular checks

Make sure your brakes are working properly. Brakes are the singe most importand part of your electric Bike. The LifeCycle Hydraulic Brakes are self adjusting

Check your wheels to make sure they are not buckled and the spokes are tight, and that there are no punctures. LifeCycle Electric Bikes have double wall alloy wall rims for lightness and extra strength

The tyres must be at the correct pressure to give you a comfortable safe ride.  The LifeCycle Mountain Sport and Alpine Sport have puncture resistant tyres as standard

Bent forks will alter the way your bike rides. LifeCycle forks have suspension to smooth out the bumpy roads

Make sure your lights are working properly and that other road users can see you clearly at all times.

Apply bike oil to the chain and gears. dont use WD40 or any similar product

What to wear.

Buy a good quality helmet and allways wear it. The LifeCycle Helmet has a built in fibre optic flashing light at the back and all round the edge.

Wear a Hi Viz Jacket especially at night.

When riding your electric bicycle think about what you are wearing. Make sure nothing is trailing or flapping about. Flappong trousers or anything that will get in the way or catch on the chain.

Wear the right clothes for the weather. cycling when soaking wet is uncomfortable so keep a pair or light waterproof over trouses with you especialy in the winter. In summer wear sun glasses so you dont have to squint in the bright sun.

Use proper panniers to carry your things, shopping bags dangling from the handlebars is dangerious an dwill unbalance the bike. Use a backpack, a basket on the front or proper cycle panniers. LifeCycle electric bikes come with a sping loaded parcel rack as standard, and they are designed to fit both the large and the small the LifeCycle panniers

When out and about

Obey the Highway Code because it applies to all road users, including cyclists. Allthough you don't need to pass a test to ride an electric bike, if you know and understand the rules of the highway code, you'll be less likely to be in a dangerous situation.

Join a Cycle traing group or proficiency centre where you can learn new skills and improve your confidence on the road.

Enjoy your electric bicycle, if you are confident, and knowledgeable about your cycling, and you use the roads with safety on a well equipped bicycle, you are far less likely to have an accident, and your journey will be far more enjoyable.
